Attracting More Bees and Pollinators to our Gardens

The Pepperell Garden Club will be hosting a program on “Attracting more bees and pollinators to our gardens” on February 11, 2026. The program will be held at the Albert Harris Senior Center, 37 Nashua Road (route 111) in Pepperell, MA. Registration for the program will begin at 6:15 and the program will begin at 6:45. Coffee and baked goods will follow the program.
Our speaker for this program is Michael Veit who is a local bee enthusiast and researcher. There is a great diversity of bees in our region and each play an important role in pollination. Mr. Veit will discuss the contrasting lifestyles of species, their diversity and importance in pollinating our native plants. Mr. Veit has authored the book “A Checklist of Bees in Massachusetts” which
documents over 400 species in our State. He was also featured in a Smithsonian Magazine article focused on bee conservation. Come to the program to learn about the importance of bees in our gardens. The public is welcome to attend.

SPEAKER: MICHAEL VIET
Michael Viet is a Pepperell native and former local biology teacher. He travels MA and other new England states surveying bee populations and documenting bee diversity He is the lead author of “A Checklist of Bees in Massachusetts” which documents 400 species of bees. He also nominated 5 native bees for the Massachusetts list of Endangered, Threatened and Special Concern Species. He recently was portrayed in a Smithsonian podcast series entitled ” The Swarm of people Intent On Saving Our Bees” and a Smithsonian Magazine article discussing the team of bee lovers doing everything to save rare native species.
